The surface exciton dispersion relation is derived for a spatially dispersive medium including the additional boundary condition P x (0 + ) = 0. The dispersion is complex for long‐wavelength P‐polarized light in the absence of phenomenological damping suggesting surface excitons exist as critically damped wavepackets.
