The influence of external mechanical stress on the lattice transformations in V 3 Si and Nb 3 Sn is investigated on the basis of Landau's theory of phase transitions. The calculated phase diagrams for uniaxial [001] and [110] stress are found to have a critical and a tricritical point. Discrepancies are indicated between theoretical results and experimental observations of the effect of an uniaxial [001] pressure in V 3 Si.
