The optical F‐band in KBr has been studied at pressures up to 11 kbar and in KI up to 9 kbar. No new absorption bands were found to appear nor was any other anomalous behavior observed. It is thus shown that so‐called K′‐bands observed by previous investigators and the K′‐center to which they were attributed do not in fact exist in crystals subjected to hydrostatic pressure.
