Experimental data for effects of various penetrating radiations on oxidic glasses and of changes in the isotopic composition of the glasses on induced electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra are presented. It is found that the present interpretation of investigation data of radiation centres in irradiated glasses is inadequate. A mechanism of paramagnetic centre formation which is different from an electron–hole mechanism and which allows to interpret the experimental data correctly is proposed.
