Application of the thermodynamic Green's functions is made to the study of phonen scattering by impurities that have two distinct integral configurations corresponding to different energy eigenvalues. Operators are defined which do the function of transferring the impurities from one state to another, and the Hamiltonian of the system is phenomenologically expressed in terms of these. Imaginary phonon Green's functious are calculated, using finite‐temperature S‐matrix expansion and diagrammatic representation. It is found that the phonon relaxation time, which is obtained from these Green's functions, explicitly involves a temperature dependent factor.
