An investigation is made of the modification of the one‐phonon scattering cross section of neutrons when the crystal is irradiated by an infrared monochromatic beam. It is found that under particular conditions an additional peak appears. The magnitude and the position of the peak depend on the intensity and the frequency of the IR beam.
