ESR spectra are given of d electrons which are localized in the randomly arranged Coulomb fields of Li + and Cu + ions in single crystals of Li x V 2 O 5 and Cu x V 2 O 5 ( x ⪅ 0.01). A localization within four vanadium 3d orbitals is derived from the hyperfine spectra. A resolved hyperfine splitting disappears at temperatures below about 15 K. The corresponding variation of the nonperiodic Coulomb field allows a rough estimate of the d‐overlap integral.
