Crystal field calculations of the temperature dependent principal and mean magnetic susceptibilities, μ eff , and the Schottky specific heat have been considered over the temperature range 10 to 400 °K in Nd 3+ : PbMoO 4 and Nd 3+ : CaWO 4 systems with D 2d point symmetry at the crystal ion site. The spectroscopic splitting factors, Curie constants, and the extra entropy associated with Schottky anomaly are compared with available experimental data.
