The q ≈ 0 lattice vibrations of mixed crystals of K 1− x Tl x Cl and K 1− x Tl x Br have been observed by far infrared reflectivity measurements. Contrary to the existing assumption, the system K 1− x Tl x Cl clearly shows a mixed‐mode behaviour similar to that of K 1− x Rb x I. K 1− x Tl x Br is either a mixed‐ or a two‐mode system. The experimental results are in good agreement with a modified version of the REI‐model.
