For the new axial centre of Gd 3+ in hexagonal CdS, reported recently, a more detailed analysis of results obtained by variable‐frequency EPR is carried out, establishing trigonal symmetry and giving spin‐Hamilton parameters b   2 0= + 1853 × 10 −4 cm −1 ,b   4 3= (±)2.6 × 10 −4 cm −1 . The model of Newman and Urban has been applied to estimate b   2 0for various local arrangements and these are compared with the experimental values of all three axial centres reported so far for Gd 3+ in CdS.
