The two‐photon absorption line of a polariton is derived by means of linear response theory. The shape is determined by the imaginary part of the polariton Green's function. The Green's function can be related to the complex dielectric function. The two‐photon absorption line is thus completely determined by the linear optical properties of the crystal. This is confirmed for the second exciton in CuCl were we succeeded in fitting the two‐photon line shape by means of the dielectric function known from one‐photon measurements.
