Phonon‐like excitations are studied on a monatomic spatially disordered system with pair interaction between the atoms. Dispersion and damping of phonon‐like excitations are governed by the self‐energy occurring in the Dyson equation of the ensemble averaged Green's function of the system. For the self‐energy a functional differential equation is derived and discussed.
