The excitonic effect on the dielectric properties of solids has been included in the calculation of the electric‐field‐induced change of the coefficient of two‐photon absorption. It is shown that the magnitude and line shapes are drastically changed when the exciton binding energy E B varied from E B < ℏΩ to E B ≫ ℏΩ, where ℏΩ is the effective characteristic electro‐optic energy which is calculated by including the electron‐hole interaction in solids.
