Optical absorption and Faraday rotation of yttrium iron garnet have been investigated in the spectral range of 1 to 0.35 μm, at 300, 20, and 6 K. At wavelengths shorter than 0.7 μm the spectra were taken on thin films epitaxially grown on gadolinium‐gallium garnet substrate.
