The structural and magnetic properties of cold worked and annealed Pt‐Cr alloys with Cr content 14 < c < 60 at% have been investigated. The annealed alloys show a spontaneous magnetization from 18 to 45 at% Cr with a maximum value for ferrimagnetic CrPt 3 . Above 17 at% Cr the appearance of a spontaneous magnetization follows the paramagnetic concentration range of Pt‐Cr alloys, and above 41 at% Cr there is a transition from non stoichiometric ferrimagnetic CrPt 3 to non stoichiometric antiferromagnetic CrPt resulting in a pseudo critical concentration range. The cold worked alloys have a paramagnetic behaviour which is ascribed to an incoherent distribution of localized moments with prevailing antiferromagnetic exchange.
