A study is made of the shape of paraelectric resonance (PER) lines broadened by internal electric fields and stresses. The calculation was made using the first‐ and second‐order statistical theory. The low‐field PER lines of the allowed transitions ( E ‖ E shf ‖ [001]) are shown to be asymmetric. An essential dependence of the lineshape of some transitions on the direction of the electric illumination is obtained. The contribution of the cross‐relaxation in the ion‐ion interaction reservoir into the broadening of PER lines is estimated. The agreement between the theory and the experiment for KCI:Li + is obtained.
