The renormalization of the bandwidth by the interatomic interactions between the electrons is investigated. It is found, that the interatomic Coulomb interaction causes a broadening of the band, whereas the interatomic exchange interaction gives a narrowing of the band. The influence of these changes in the bandwidth on the Stoner criterion is discussed.
