The electromagnetic absorption is investigated theoretically in type I superconductors placed in a weak magnetic field parallel to the surface of the specimen. A shallow potential box has been considered which contains a single magnetic surface level. The energy of the surface state is calculated. At zero temperature the electromagnetic absorption threshold decreases. At temperatures of the order of the energy gap the surface impedance possesses a logarithmic singularity at the frequency corresponding to the excitation transition from the magnetic surface level into continuum. The temperature dependence of the electromagnetic absorption has been derived also.
