Interference effects between a discrete and continuous electronic states have been studied in the presence of the effect of phonons on the discrete state. With the use of a Langevin type equation for the motion of the discrete state, the contribution of phonons is expressed as a frequency dependent life time for the discrete state. By noting the presence of an extra continuum interacting with the discrete state through phonon participation, the quant um mechanical Langevin equation can be approximately derived. This result gives a theoretical foundation for the recent, successful analysis of the antiresonance in an exciton spectrum which made use of a phenomenological life time parameter.
