The propagation velocity and the coupling of surface spin waves to the outside rf field in rectangular YIG samples is strongly influenced by the local variation of the internal magnetic field. An experimental study of these effects is made and a clarification of the reflection mechanism of surface modes near the ends of the sample is presented.
