Abstract An augmented and flexible Green's function matrix is found to provide a convenient recipe for core‐core displacement Green's functions in defective systems comprising deform‐able atoms or ions. The enlarged matrix contains readily accessible information also on the defect‐induced perturbation in the thermodynamic partition function.
