We calculate the magnetic susceptibility of Kane‐type semiconductors in the ultra‐quantum limit, taking account of spin splitting. It is shown that, when the bottom of the upper spin branch of the n = 0 Landau band passes through the Fermi surface, there is a strong minimum in the diamagnetic susceptibility as the spins of all free carriers align. The conditions are considered for transition to a conduction electron paramagnetism. Calculations are carried out for InSb with carrier concentrations of 2 × 10 16 and 2 × 10 17 cm −3 .
