The lattice dynamics and the elastic constants of the hexagonal metals holmium and yttrium have been investigated using the approach of Keating. In holmium, the dispersion curves are fitted using eleven force constant parameters and the six elastic constants are evaluated. The dispersion relations and the elastic constants of yttrium are fitted using twelve parameters.
