On the decay of the excited triplet state of the M centre in KCl

The results of lifetime measurements of the relaxed excited triplet state of the M centre, 3 M * , in KCl are given. The emission has the same decay time constant when exciting in the 1 M and in the 3 M bands: τ = τ( 1 M * ). The conclusion may be drawn that a conversion 3 M * → 1 M * occurs with high probability.
