Paramagnetic resonance experiments on Dy 3+ ions in (Y, Dy)VO 4 (100:1) showed both the transition in the ground doublet and the transition in the first excited doublet. The energy gap between both doublets was estimated by comparing the line intensities at various temperatures. By means of a pulse saturation technique at X‐band frequencies paramagnetic relaxation times have been observed in the temperature range of liquid helium as a function of the angle between the optical axis and the magnetic field, and additionally in the case of (Y, Dy)VO 4 , as a function of crystal size and concentration 100:1, 20:1, and 5:1).
