Satellites associated with the praseodymium transitions in thc spectra of solid solutions of manganese and zinc double nitrates, Pr 2 Mn 3 ‐ x Zn x (NO 3 ) 12 · 24 H 2 O, have been observed, and their behaviour in an axial magnetic field has been investigated photographically at 4.2 °K. These satellites are explained in terms of the crystal field perturbation due to an impurity bivalent ion, and parameters describing this effect are derived.
