The yield and decay lam of the intrinsic luminescence of CsI are studied. From the results obtained a configuration coordinate scheme for the relaxed exciton is suggested and the nature of the relaxed state is specified. The kinetics of electron‐hole recombination following an ionizing irradiation is reported.
