The effect of a strain gradient on the drift velocity and the effect of the strain on the migration energy of point defects are deduced in terms of double force tensors associated with the defect in the stable lattice position and the saddle point position. General equations for the force of transport and the migration energy are deduced and discussed for special cases of strains and double force tensors; the relation to relaxation and activation volumes is given.
