Analysis of the elastic anomalies at the structural phase transition of SrTiO 8 near 105 K

Expressions are given for the elastic compliances, s ij , and the elastic stiffnesses, c ij , of the tetragonal phase which have been derived from the phenomenological theory of the phase transition. The discontinuities of the elastic constants at the transition are calculated from the tetragonal distortion and the stress dependence of the transition temperature and compared with those obtained from sound velocity and Brillouin scattering data.
