The thermally activated transformation of a certain initial dislocation configuration into a final one is considered. Various possible final dislocation configurations, viz. those formed by two glissile dislocations or by two dislocations of which one is glissile and the other sessile, as well as some other configurations have been investigated. The activation energy of the processes considered is calculated in a single scheme. The activation energy is determined by solving a variational problem with so‐called mobile boundaries.
