The conservation of total angular momentum is considered in detail for polarons, using an expansion of the polarization field into spherical waves. This formalism is used to improve the Landau‐Pekar approximation, taking the electron‐phonon correlations partially into account. A value 10 to 20% lower is obtained for the polaron ground state energy for values of the coupling constant α ranging from 8 to 5.
