A strong polarization dependence of the optical transition from the inner core level is observed in the S L II,III absorption spectra of hexagonal CdS (160 to 170 eV), using the synchrotron orbital radiation. The present results are discussed in comparison with the interpretation made on reflection spectra obtained in the ultraviolet region (3 to 12 eV).
