Optical Absorption Intensities of Ho 3+ in YPO 4

The intensities of the electric dipole transitions within the 4f 10 configuration of Ho 3+ in YPO 4 have been measured. They can be described with the Judd‐Ofelt theory. The fitted parameters show that the configuration 4f 10 interacts stronger with the configurations n d 9 4f 11 (n = 3, 4) than with the configurations 4f 9 n d ( n ≥ 5). The total interactions with g‐electrons and with d‐electrons are of the same order.
