Investigations are made of the absorption spectra — d‐d transitions — of a series of A 3 CrCl 6 double salts, where A = Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs. Using Tanabe and Sugano's energy matrices for d 3 configuration in O h point group an assignment of the bands is made. An influence of the next alkali cation on the Racah parameter B is observed and qualitatively explained by introducing a new parameter μ depending on both the charge and the radius of cations.
