In spite of its simple composition and crystal structure, the ferromagnetic material γ′‐Fe 4 N displays a remarkably rich behavior that has fascinated applied as well as basic researchers since the 1930s. It exhibits a large saturation magnetization and is a promising candidate for application as a high‐density recording material. The back cover illustration refers to this issue's Feature Article (see pp. 909–928) which reviews the history of the experimental and theoretical research on Fe 4 N. By confronting experimental evidence with predictions from eight different flavors of Density Functional Theory, a new hypothesis on the magnetic properties of this material is put forward (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
