Abstract The back cover shows reflection spectra from a metal–dielectric metamaterial in the optical range for s‐polarization conditions and different incident angles. The first author Ryosuke Watanabe, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, investigates light–matter interaction in artificial structures. He has been the winner of one of two physica status solidi Young Researcher Awards at the recent 8th International Conference on Excitonic Processes in Condensed Matter (EXCON'08) in Kyoto where his paper – published as our Editor's Choice on p. 2696 ff. – was presented as an oral contribution.
