The cover illustration refers to five selected contributions that were presented at the Symposium on “Modern Developments in Multiphysics Materials Simulations” held at the 2008 DPG Spring Meeting of the German Physical Society in Berlin. The Symposium was organized by Jörg Neugebauer (Max‐Planck Institute, Düsseldorf) and Mark Asta (University of California, Davis). The range of topics includes the application of neural networks to predict ground state crystalline phases, of combining DFT with kMC to study epitaxial growth of semiconductors, and the application of ab initio techniques with mechanical engineering concepts to jump scales directly from the atomistic to the macroscopic scale.
