We grew (Mg,Zn)O nanorods with different morphologies and growth directions on various substrates by the thermal evaporation process using vapor‐solid growth mode. The alignment and growth mode of the nanorods are significantly affected by the underlayer and substrates. By depositing ZnO and (Mg,Zn)O underlayers, the alignment of the (Mg,Zn)O nanorods was changed from random to vertical based on the substrate surface. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
