Abstract It is suggested to measure relaxation stresses in amorphous alloys on the basis of diffraction data. Using this procedure, we analysed the elimination of local stresses on low‐temperature annealing of amorphous Pd 52 Ni 32 P 16 . As a result, a three‐dimensional pattern of a stress distribution in raw alloy was obtained, the main feature of which was nanoscale heterogeneities. We found that the value of relaxation energy for Pd 52 Ni 32 P 16 is 1.49 kJ/mol. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
