In the current contribution we review the physics of single quantum dot photodiodes. The coupling of a quantum system to an electric circuit allows for impressively simple and reliable single quantum measurements. The application of this concept leads to a new class of coherent optoelectronic devices with novel and so far unattained functionalities. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
