Using the Dresselhaus Hamiltonian and parametrized form of the wave functions it is shown that 2D electron spin surfaces are the ellipsoids of rotation in zinc‐blende‐type semiconductors, when the spin‐splitting is included. However, in bulk semiconductors the exact solution shows that the spin surfaces are of higher, spherical symmetry. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
