The elastic properties of two‐dimensional (2D) cyclic trimers, each constituted of three soft polydisperse disks interacting by n ‐inverse‐power‐potential, were numerically determined for the static case (i.e. at temperature T = 0). The influence of a structural disorder (polydispersity of the disk sizes) on the bulk modulus, the shear modulus, and the Poisson's ratio of the system was studied. Negative Poisson's ratio has been found for a range of densities at some values of the softness parameter n –1 and polydispersity. Simple mathematical formulae describing the dependence of elastic properties of the model on the softness parameter and polydispersity are proposed. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
