In this paper, formulas for the optical spectrum and the EPR parameters calculated for d 2 ions in T d symmetry are established by using a covalent model, in which the covalence contribution has been considered. Using the model, we have calculated the optical spectra and the ground‐state gyromagnetic factor and zero‐field splitting of CdS:Ti 2+ . The calculated results could explain well the experimental findings. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
