Through considering the packing density and the lattice contraction of Goldschmidt's premise, volume changes of elements crystals with different structures on melting are modeled. It is found that the predictions of the model are in agreement with the experimental and other theoretical results. In addition, the volume change of the solid–solid transition is also determined.
