Abstract Spin–lattice relaxation (SLR) is studied in quantum well and quantum dot structures by photo‐carrier induced spin heating. For the SLR time constants no qualitative difference is found between quantum well and quantum dot structures. There is no hint for a specific zero‐dimensional behaviour.
