The influence of single‐site anisotropy, dipolar interaction and magnetoelastic coupling on the stabilization of long‐range magnetic order in two‐dimensional ferromagnets is investigated. Emphasis is placed on the magnetoelastic effect. It is shown that in spite of the weakness of this interaction it makes an essential contribution to the stabilization of long‐range ferromagnetic order. Numerical calculations are performed.
