An interpretation is given of the earlier described phenomenon of low‐frequency current oscillations induced by light, X‐ and γ‐rays in CdS, CdSe crystals, basing on the instability of a stationary state of the crystal with unequilibrium electron occupation of traps; the instability being caused by Joule's heating. It is shown that in the space of variables E, L, T 0 (electric field, intensity of radiation, temperature of the crystal surface) an instability region exists. The boundaries experimentally found are in good agreement with calculations. The dependences of the oscillation period on E, L , and T 0 are also explained.
