Macroscopic spin‐wave theory is used to discuss the spin‐wave spectrum of two exchange‐coupled ferromagnetic films. The coupling between the films is assumed as ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic. Further, the effect of surface anisotropies on the spectrum is taken into account. Three types of coupled spin‐wave modes can exist in such a sandwich: bulk spin‐waves in both films, a bulk mode in the one film and a surface mode in the other film and finally surface modes in both of the films.
