The Fermi surface of the intermetallic compound MgZn 2 is calculated. The potential is obtained from the local model potential of the pure metals Mg and Zn recalculated to the changed electron density in the compound. Fermi surfaces exist in the 10th to the 14th band and show a strong deviation from those of free electrons. The calculated extremal cross sections depend strongly on the Fermi energy. It is possible to assign values of the cross sections from de Haas‐van Alphen‐measurements of MgZn 2 to the calculated ones.
