A low‐symmetry (C 2 v ) model of the lattice disturbance in the system KBr:Sm 2+ is employed to calculate the vibronic sideband structure of a 4f‐4f transition. The result yields improvement over earlier calculations, which were based on higher‐symmetry models. The improvement is such that the chosen model may be considered to be realistic.
